Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon outlined a series of actions he believes the global community must take over the next five years to build “the future we want.” In a speech to the General Assembly last September Mr. Ban presented five imperatives – or generational opportunities – that must be addressed to ensure a better future for the world’s people.

Every year on 9th of December by the initiative of the United Nations the International Anti-Corruption Day is observed. It aims to raise public awareness of corruption and what people can do to fight it. Today in Kyzylorda the last seminar has been conducted, being a part of a series of educational events for young members of election commissions. These events were organized by Pavlodar Regional Governance School in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan and with the support of UNDEF. Since the beginning of October similar regional workshops were held in Aktobe, Almaty, Atyrau, Kokshetau, and Pavlodar.

On 5th December every year UN celebrates International Volunteer Day. This day is a chance for volunteer-involving organizations and individual volunteers to promote their contributions to development at local, national and international levels. By merging UN support with a grassroots mandate, IVD is a unique opportunity for volunteer-involving organizations to work with government agencies, non-profit organizations, community groups and the private sector. was established by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly through Resolution 40/212 on 17 December 1985. Since then, governments, the UN system and civil society organizations have successfully joined volunteers around the world to celebrate the Day on 5 December.

World AIDS Day on 1 December brings together people from around the world to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic. The day is an opportunity for public and private partners to spread awareness about the status of the pandemic and encourage progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in high prevalence countries and around the world.

today is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. On December 17, 1999, the United Nations General Assembly designated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The UN invited governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities designated to raise public awareness of the problem on this day as an international observance. New York, 23 November 2011— Members of the public can now access financial data on the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) development activities for the most recent fiscal period, thanks to a new open data portal.

On November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, an international conference will be held in Astana to discuss issues of legislation and law enforcement practices to prevent domestic violence in Kazakhstan and put in place a system for assisting victims of violence. This event is organized jointly by UNDP, National Commission for Women Affairs and Family-Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, United Nations Women and the OSCE Centre in Astana with the support of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Astana will host ‘Sustainable Energy and Low-Carbon Technologies’ Conference. The conference sponsors are the Kazakh Ministry of Environmental Protection, UN Development Programme and UN Economic Commission for Europe.

Press-conference, dedicated to 2011 Human development Report took place in Astana today. UNDP/GEF project on energy-efficient construction and experts from Byelorussian scientific research institute NIPTIS presented the results of the pilot energy-efficient residential building design in Karaganda at the seminar for designers and construction specialists of Kazakhstan.
